Post by: Olekoima on October 23, 2014, 06:24:07 PM

In Summary

Shares of Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corporation (TKMR) are up again in pre market trading after the biotech released an update on its Ebola program, stating that it is developing a new Ebola drug candidate. Tekmira’s share price, which has so far seen gains based on the company’s other Ebola drug, TKM-Ebola, increased 4.6% in extended trading on the news.

This was the first positive gain for Tekmira stock since Friday; the stock had been on a decline on news that 48 individuals being monitored for the Ebola virus had cleared the 21-day incubation period without showing any symptoms of the disease.

The Canada-based biopharmaceutical has been working on TKM-Ebola Program, which aims to research and develop therapeutics targeting the Ebola virus disease (EVD). The program is funded by the US Department of Defense’s Joint Project Manager Medical Countermeasure Systems (JPM-MCS), which signed a $140 million contract with Tekmira in 2010 to advance an RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic which used the company’s lipid nanoparticle (LNP) technology to target EVD

There seem to be way too many vested interests in this current outbreak.  Any confluence of the US DOD and big pharma, "the epidemic" and the stock market.  How likely is such a coincidence?

Most nagging for me.  At the risk of sounding redundant.  Are they making any distinction between non-Ebola and Ebola cases?

Termi

You have been at this for a minute...pray tell Termi, in a region with the current epidemic, where they lack the most basic necessisities, how do you think they should proceed...aint you asking for a bit much? Ebola has very distinct characteristics that most other tropical diseases do not have, only second to the dreaded Marburg virus ie bleeding from all orifices, diahrrea and vomitting ensues, leading to dehydration and shock...that differentiates it from most other illnessess like say malaria. Once the symptoms kick in, the downward spiral is pretty fast, so my guess is there is no way you can mix the ebola with all those other diseases as you purport. And it is the public alerting the healthcare workers in most cases once the symptoms become visible.....I dont believe they are going around checking for anyone with a fever just to diagnose them with ebola. my penny mbili
