I have long grappled with corruption question in Kenya - and came to certain well known conclusion.
1) Kenya corruption is endemic and systemic. It's really very stupid to focus on Ruto while 99 percent of kenya civil service are corrupt. It such double standards and hypocrisy that makes the fight against graft political and dead arrival. Until you admit that Raila and Ruto are equally corrupt - we are not going anywhere - because even at conceptal level you still have a mental contortionsim - which tells you Ruto is corrupt and rest are clean. Hiyo ni siasa.
2) Fighting systemic corruption in poor country is NOT EASY. It's akin to fighting robbery. The risk reward matrix requires country to develop more opportunities to live a dignified life. The justice system meant to deal with graft is corrupt. The prison warden are corrupt. Even if we go for shooting or hanging - someone will buy the hangmen not to kill them.
3) Understanding how difficutlt it is to fight graft, we want to avoid Moi era corruption that stymies economic growth. That is grand looting. We are therefore "fine" if we are somehow able to grow the economy as the civil servants grow fat too. It has been shown that corruption goes on it's own when economy grows...as country become more develop...most people will choose not to engage in many crimes.
4) Most people favour Top-Down corruption approach. I disagree. The top - are very sophsiticated thiefs - you cannot catch Rutos, Railas, Kalonzos and Uhurus...as they are guys who appoint everyone - and have international money laundering network. You can cry
about Ruto until you turn green but you're not going anywhere. He will continue to be more popular and more richer.
Unless you have revolutionary like Miguna Miguna doing a Jerry Rwaling Ghana thing - of killing and jailing almost all top politicians, judges and leaders - Top DOWN approach will never work in Kenya.
5) I favour bottom-up corruption war. I believe it also more insidious. Corruption by traffic police or dispensaries or local land officials. That has serious impact than one guy stealing a billion. If you add up the 100shs police collect - it runs into billions. They are stealing money from poor people. They are allowing criminals to go free including terrorist.
Top leaders I dont mind if they steal like Kagame or Museveni are doing - but they must also ensure NOBODY ELSE STEALS. You cannot democratize stealing.
6) We need to for the money. ARA approach - asset recovery is the best. Criminal conviction will not happen. It easy to summon all corrupt people and ask them to explain the source of their wealth. No need to take them through very corrupt justice systems - with very high standards of proof. With ARA - gov has managed to get lots of money using very little resources and very quickly.

Link. That could explain - Murgor, Cecil and Ombeta are top criminal lawyers. We already know Ombeta is corrupt from drug dealers now rotting in US jails...Akasha.

Laughable. If high priest corruption is top then why single out Cecil Miller, Murgor and Ombeta? Why double triple standards Pundit? If top leaders stealing ok then top lawyers corruption ok as well isnt it? You cant argue it one way and condemn same thing in same breath otherwise your being hyper hypocritical. Be consistent and condemn all corruption or condone all of it everywhere. You cannot finance big corruption by sijui bottoms up corruption war what does that mean?
We put it this way. So high priest top crowd pullers - now wonder he thinks he win all elections.

Pundit:
You need to read this article below to understand why corrupt societies can't move up the economic food chain
https://www.oftwominds.com/blognov12/DWHWIT-China11-12.html
There is no way for a deeply corrupt society to get from here (their current level of development) to there (a higher level of development) because corruption limits two essential components of sustainable growth and widespread prosperity: social mobility and innovation.
In corrupt societies, potentially profitable innovations are quickly stolen, copied, pirated or appropriated by corrupt officials and/or criminal cartels. The innovator cannot reap the fruits of his innovation. His only choice is to move to a nation that offers him the freedom to develop his ideas and drive and keep the yield for himself and his family.
You seem to be arguing for Suharto's indonesia or the corrupt state of Malaysia and believe that's kenya's model to "prosperity"

Sonko got played till he is crying like a baby. Kenya is corrupt anyone thinking any lawyer is clean is taking the joke too far. Sonko got played by flying too close to the sun. Someone like Miller is not where he is for being a Saint. There are brilliant lawyers in kenya who do not have his connections. Sonko is headed for jail or financial ruin. He is now a Phariah His career is over. He let power get into his head. He didn't realize he was chokora and the real money was going to deal with him
Anyone any African or anyone from developing nation you deal with just assume they are crooks till they prove otherwise.
Sonko got played and he should just move on. But he has an emotional maturity of a toddler. He keeps at this and we end up in jail or dead
-
I like Chiles the most - under Pinochet. It became second and only south american to become developed after Argentina.

Dont understimate someone who was faking HIV AIDS in 90s to escape prison. Sonko is a real thug. The rest are white collar thugs. Sonko has spent time in jail. Going back is not a problem. The problem is how many people he has taped and is waiting for opportune time to bring them down. Many. This one is just land deal gone sour. It's very likely someone will kill sonko before any court will convict him. Nobody want to come close to Sonko....not even judges unless they are super clean.
Sonko makes most of his money stealing old white and asian men properties in Mombasa and Nairobi. Corruption is least of his problem....one plot in Karen or Kwale belonging to old white dude is worth millions.

Yes he is a land thief but that avenue now may be closed. Soon or later he will run out of funds. Those noises he used to make as a senator were part of his cartel moves. Anyway let us see if he can beat the biggest thug in its own game that is gok. Even pattin at one time had to walk away. Sonko is the biggest fraudster of our times
-
Thought sonko was a drug dealer? How do you just steal land from a mzungu or Asian? those people are known to fight or not give up their assets easily.
-
Sonko is a jack of all trades. He will do anything to get money for his bling bling.
