Title: Whassapp, insta and fb outage

Who took them down? I would miss whatsapp as it is easiest form of communication from folks in kenya. Facebook can go fly a kite. As for ig I am too 9ld for that shirt and to me that is a narcissist app. I can't see why anyone would use it regularly

There is another called signal or something - all my ethiopean friends are on it. It better than whatsapp if you come from north korea like ethiopia.

This an opportunity for some other app to rise and challenge fb dominance. Whatever has happened with fb and her sister companies is really serious.

What do you think,happened?

strange. Normally in this century - something like this dont happen - servers are auto-scaled - micro services used - to ensure outage like this doesnt happen. Ideally you should have one thing not working - not the whole of it. Leave alone three ecosystems.

But there is always one single fault line.

What is appear is zuckerberg has tried to run a tight ship and tighly coupled all the threes - it's pure madness.

Lots of people will get fired.

If you knew how their server farms are structured in 22 different locations, it's a miracle that outage doesn't happen more often. It's a complex network that has grown fast with little space to plan

I won’t be surprised if it was by design
To try to quell recent criticism
Such a big firm knows security and you don’t expect all servers to go down
