Title: How do you make a sponge cake?
Post by: veritas on September 30, 2021, 08:35:51 AM
I've been trying for the last couple days, have tried more than ten times to make a simple sponge cake and it's just disgustingly dense.

Can someone please guide me in making a simple sponge cake?

I can make pizza as attached... but sponge cake is proving to be impossible!

I have heard it's something about mixing the egg white and the batter stage.  You do it wrong and you can kiss your perfect sponge cake goodbye.  You may also just need to increase the egg white.  That pizza does not look good though - it's looks a bit burnt.

That's my version of a mini NY cheese pizza without too much cheese because I'm on a diet. It tastes better than it looks  :D

I've tried many different types of whipping techniques with the eggs but to no avail. .. baking is hard  :-\

I used egg whites, flour, baking powder, sugar and that's it. I'll increase the egg white.. see how that goes..

Use whole eggs, and get a good whisk.

YouTube is your friend. I find baking to be easier than cooking.

I am baking a Brooklyn Blackout Cake this weekend.  Naturally I'll scale back on the sugar measures(American pastries just go way too much on the sugar front).

George, that's my NY pizza ...  :D

I'm still working on the sponge cake, too hard !!

On another note, this is my rose gold rice cooker (attached). You know how I burnt down my kitchen a couple months back ... when the firefighters were doing the incident report they were struggling to figure out what my rice cooker was ... well, just as an FYI this is a rice cooker.

Mmmmm, Veritas.
You've gone techie.
Me, I prefer cooking the old fashioned way.
Its leaves more nutrition in the food.
