The bill proposes a membership of 15 to 20 to help deal with the backlog of appeals. Review of the Tax Appeals Tribunal Act (2013) comes after the Kenyan High Court ruled in March that local tribunals are subordinate courts and the appointment and removal of their members by the Executive violates the Principle of Separation of Powers, contravenes the right to fair hearing and infringes on the Independence of the Judiciary. The court directed that tribunals be transited to the Judiciary.

Commendable ruling. KRA cannot be rogue. That would be jungle law where brute force is order of day. If trader wronged by KRA they must find fair trial. Some KRA decisions like Mastermind and Keroche might be revisited.

Precisely. Kenya democracy is growing.

The Keroche and Mastermind are insiders plunder ploys. Murungi had a 'njuuri ncheke' confidnates who took advantage of him and invited KRA crooks who became too greedy thus the haemorrhage. Same case with Keroche or African Spirits.

KRA also need to be stripped of power to increase excise duty annually using "inflation adjustment targets" https://kra.go.ke/en/media-center/public-notices/1414-inflation-adjustment-on-specific-rates-of-excise-duty-2021

Odunga would have no problem stopping such nonsense. How does that even make sense - you increase taxes- inflation rise - so how will they stop the circular logic.
