BBI 2022-Does Kenya Really Need a Senate?
« on: June 17, 2020, 12:37:16 AM »
There is a propasal in Railas BBI to make Senate the upper house where by the decisons by legislature will have to be ratified by the senate for them to pass. The current senate is made up of 47 elected members and round about 20 nominated members.
Take for example Migori county where we have Kuria Minority and Luo Majority being represented by the Luo senator. Does the senate trully represent the correct constituion of the electorate. These will be some of the questions the change of Constituion should be able to answer.

Electoral positions and constitutional offices are meant to redistribute national resources. Reason the push back by rabid Uhuru. Just because Uhuru as he is being cheered by Ruto and now Raila have made these institutions impotent does not mean they are not necessary.  Even rabid Uhuru, Ruto and Raila without serious threats of violent death won't control all these people.

What are we to be left with? Twitter? Nipate? Facebook? Music Studios? If it is so easy to take down Auditor General or IEBC what is Twitter or Citizen??

Across Africa, we need these chattering mouths as many of them taking the money to Turkana and Moyale.

Someone like Sonko, Waititu, Waiguru or just any rat as governor will act worse than rabid Jomo, Moi or Uhuru if they knew they would only be dealing with kanjoras who they can have gangs chase them out of their houses at night.
I underestimated the heartbreaks visited by hasla revolution

You have a point. We need to strengthen them.

Kenya doesn't need a senate it actually needs to be abolished. Recent events have proved that senate can easily be bought or coerced. This is very dangerous it can put the country at risk of many things, even foreign powers can easily manipulate the senate.

The problem is more than 20 nominated senators - those are guns for hire. They are unelected. If we had senate of strictly 47 counties - the senate would play her role.

So for it to be a real upper house - we don't need any nominated senator in there.

The senate was created not as an upper house, but to protect the devolution that was to be expanded and not diluted as in the current case. Uhuru just like Ruto do not believe in devolution. They would like to see a central place of power. The semate does not need nomited members and even if, the present number is inflated. 47 senators would do and the case of gender inequality would have to wait for another day.
