Few random observation.Few years ago it was Jameson but now it's Jack Daniels and Gilbeys for the broke or girls buying themselves.Everything remain constant.. except less n less cigarette smoking..shisha yes but generally smoking is no longer cool.Where guys use to come dressed with dirty jeans n t-shirts..now everyone is dressing for the party..women likely not wear jeans completely.

Kenya continue to eschew clubs like old F1 or F2 preferring lounges where drinking is the main activity..not dancing like many countries.The bar remain a place to watch sports and sit browsing the internet.Amongst Kikuyu there is resurgence of muratina drinking everywhere..where they use to take Balozi to promote Tabitha it's likely they will have muratina 20 litres now under the seats.They complain of not getting regular supply of Balozi

Like cigarette there is less n less chewing of khat.The food scene has changed slightly..lots of pork now almost everywhere.. poorly prepped so I won't recommend unless you know not any better

Generally the age disparity remain..it bar scene of monied 30 and 40yrs men with college girls of early 20s.The women in btw are busy rearing their children.Unlike developed countries dating scene remain strongly linked to your income levels..so you can say it's generally middle class men entertaining poor naive college girls and their boyfriend's betting and drinking draft keg beer Once the girls are paged they are out.Men are out once they meet their post teen 18yrs old in same lounges

Generally Kenyans party hard.. likely to spend half their income buying Jack Daniels..the poor have been relegated to drinking keg beer.There is no more old people bars..it's rare to find such bars with old barmaid and old TV.

Music scene has changed..where you use to listen to American and local genres ...it's now local and African.. Nigeria, Tanzania, south Africa.Its very unlikely anybody will play American music or international music.International now is Nigeria..Kenya still like genge and old school Kenya music...e sir is now old school classic.

Sports has changed..now people support teams based on stakes they placed.. betting is big but not as big as sportpesa era...they are gazillion of betting companies but none has yet to reach sportpesa sure bet days.They either have tiny jackpot or are not prompt.I don't bet myself so don't the details

Finally don't invest in bars or lounges they are now fad or fashion items with little shelf life and zero loyalty.The herd crowd in latest lounge until new one comes up leaving in it's wake destruction...my bar in konoin we drunk on it for years...my dad started drinking in it in 1969.The bar owner is still alive but old now...that kind of loyalty you cannot get in this generation...who wants to Instagram everything.Only K 1 and Sabina joy have survived in Nairobi

Very sad. In retrospect when you look at it. People enjoying bar life are the ones who got absorbed by wotkforce during Kibaki era.

Thanks for updating some of us in the US. Every time we call or call someone to send them money, of course, they are in a noisy place, likely a lounge. If we happen to send them kitu kidogo and call them back in two hours or so, they are usually tipsy, incoherent, or the phone is switched off. Sad to say, but my younger brother died a few years ago of cirrhosis of drinking bottles of Gilbeys every night! I suspect folks in Kenya, because of the anemic economy, spend their time in bars or loitering. When you fix a functioning 24-hour economy where people work most of the time, alcohol consumption may reduce because people need to be sober to work and drive around. The sobriety of 12 hours a day (Working hours) and a little bit of alcohol/bars regulation can easily save a few alcoholics from reaching tipping points.

The young urban middle class in Nairobi all believe that they will get rich on instagram, youtube and tiktok.  That they will get rich by making nothing. They all call themselves content creators now.  Free trips, pictures and free meals will stop working for them after they hit 40.

Anyway, what do these middle class men do for a living? where is their cash coming from? and what would you say you would need to make to have a middle class life in Nairobi?

90% of what posted true.....but Kenyans don't party hard infact Kenya really lags behind alcohol is expensive compared to per capita GDP. Southern Africa  parties hard all of them countries. Kenyans think themselves as party going but even TZ and UG outdo us

(2) For the poor people, you always hear of a funeral in the village every two weeks because there are wine and spirits shops to sell you spirits (makali) with high alcohol content than keg..chiefs,kanju n police always collect moeny from these wines and spirits selling poisonous cheap liqour,nobody gives a fuck....after drinking these makali for 2-3 years, you start vomiting blood at times,start collapsing,never ending cold,then TB you are dead.

Nope githunguri is right middle class drink and fcuk in parking lot. Its not just Miraa chewers, however Miraa chewers started this form of urban lifestyle but sex wasn't involved they just chewed all night,started in Meru and northern Kenya before spreading to rest of Kenya Urban areas during covid,I bet economy is very hard Middle class in Kenya is a mirage beers in Kenya overly expensive so lots prefer to buy from liquor stores and save money by chilling in the cars,ladies also appear to have fallen for this trend its cheap liquor and cheap sex no need to pay accomodation fees. Young girls become so cheap nowadays.

Kenyans over 35, which are not many, look like they will save the country down the road. On the other hand, young folks under 30 are reckless and heading to destruction, significantly if something big doesn't change. Chasing quick, easy money in the middle of alcohol, betting, drugs, and prostitution is a major disaster in the making. With a sizeable reckless population, it is generally hard to lift its economy! I watch raw loyalty tests in Kenya and it seems everyone has mipango ya kando; meaning if you are married, or have a girlfriend, and live in Kenya 9 of 10 your woman is nailed hard by others. Also, men have two or three women among other prostitutes they lay after fompe. A different Kenya we don't recognize at all!

Yes, I think many young people are having sex for money because of anemic economy. If economy is thriving, folks tend to revert to moral-driven relationships. The few men with money, especially the old men, must be pounding girls and people's wives senseless.
