How does it work?

On nipate, if someone awarded someone some points, they left a message and this was readable by the person awarded the points and by other members. Hence, you knew why the points were awarded and for which post. Its sometimes interesting to read through the reputation points and follow the thread/topic they were awarded for, usually very interesting.

Here, it seems I get a point every time I post or if someone awards me the points, it seems I cant tell why or who? Am I just not working it properly??

I need to tweak it. From my understanding the comments are stored on the giver's side at present. So basically if someone likes your thread, you get 3 points, if they like your post-1 point. I need to tweak it so comments can be seen on both sides.
