The hundreds who are losing jobs daily can understand this. The many businessmen who are owed millions in unpaid bills know this.

Jubilee propagandists deny it.

Ethiopia has a plan and anyone who steals has their heads chopped off.
Kenya has no plan. Kibaki and Raila came close, but then.....
Meanwhile no jobs.

ethiopia is civil strife right now. There is an ongoing armed resistance against the current government. Ethiopian Airlines is leaving DC empty every day as Ethiopians in diaspora stay away for fear of being caught up in civil war back home. What you see is a well managed pR stunt by the social government the reality ont he ground is different

Yeah they are not doing well this year but you've got to admit they've really grown the last few years - I wish kenya could grow as fast. Ethiopia if it can transition to a democracy - will go places. It has 100m people, huge land and hydro-potential - although drought(desertification) & political risks remain the elephant in the house.

Pundit,

But one of the reasons Ethiopia is growing and more planned is due to less democracy.

Democracy is not a good thing for a poor country. It gets misused and nothing gets done.

only homegenous countries can get away with dictatorship - talking about say CHina - where Hans are 90% of China - but Ethiopia where majority Oromo are feeling unhappy and where small tribe is running it is not going far. Heterogenous countries need democracy and lots of devolution & federalism.

I also think that democracy is highly susceptible to foreign influence and infiltration through civil society groups and foreign sponsored political groups.
Moreover, it's good to have a variety. It will be boring to have all countries adopt western type democracy.  It let's us know if democracy or firm dictatorship is good for developing Africa by acting like a control experiment.

Africa still needs more "experiments" with dictatorship?

Isn't Ethiopia's population like 80 something million?  Almost twice Kenya's.  Those numbers alone say they still have some ways to go.

Democracy is good when practiced as it is supposed to. Most leaders think that the opposition is the enemy so resources are allocated to silence them. Case study S. Korea democracy. The country gained independence at the same time as Kenya, but look at where they are. Kenyans are very unpatriotic, they worship thieving politicians and ignore the likes of change seekers.

That means they should be nipping at the heels of Nigeria. They have grown fast, but they are not respectable.
