NGO Board Chair Fazul Still Has Fake Egerton Degree

The NGO Coordination Board chairman Fazul Mahamed aka Mahamed Yusuf did not graduate from Egerton University.

The Registrar of Academic Affairs, Prof SFO Owido, said Mahamed Yusuf, as he was known in college, was discontinued on academic grounds in his third year by the senate on August 26, 2010.

However, his CV shows he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2009.

In a letter to the National Council of NGOs dated September 10, Owido says Fazul was admitted as a regular student in 2007 to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

He changed the course through an inter-faculty transfer on September 27, 2007.

Fazul was discontinued for failing 50 per cent or more of all the credit factors taken in the ordinary exams of one academic year.

However, when contacted, Fazul dismissed this as malice, saying people affected by his attempt to clean up the NGOs are peddling rumours to tarnish his name.

He said threatening to de-register 900 NGOs that have not submitted their audited accounts has earned him the wrath of those involved in falsifying accounts books.

Fazul said records of his academic qualifications are available for verification. On October 29, Fazul announced that 900 NGOs risked being de-registered if they did not present audited accounts to the NGO Coordination Board he heads within 14 days.

He said a forensic audit revealed that Sh25.7 billion of the Sh140 billion from donors cannot be accounted for.

Fazul said the unaccounted for amount may have been used in financing terrorism and money laundering.

However, critics say Fazul was irregularly appointed because there is no evidence he went through vetting as required of all public servants.
