A drink kills boredom. Local roads should be done using wheelbarrows so as to give these people some income and something to do. Boredom kills whole generations of people. Counties can manage the money but must be thoroughly audited. Roman built roads dont need as many repairs as modern asphalt roads.

Gachagua just accentuates kikuyu stereotype, Kangata at least has basic understanding of the problem but the prescription wont solve the problem https://nation.africa/kenya/blogs-opinion/opinion/unpacking-kenya-s-complex-youth-crisis-4200628 . I think wines and spirits are next to Mpesa and women's clothing shops in terms of numbers in Nairobi Metro and Central. Except for the morality question, the economic lash back could be stronger than what hit ufool from Nyamakima.

Feeds broke police.

Only reason western n luo nyanza don't have alcohol problem is because they drink busaa as it not illegal and is widely brewed. What has killed mt kenya and kalenjin is 50bob poison being sold by z Gouts n Hk here..who are in that business. Raila is key player as molasses is main source of this poison..

Very good arguments on the complexity of the issue. Alcohol is a status symbol. Shows you have disposable income and time.

Drunken and disorderliness can be traced to the colonial laws prohibiting mwafrika from drinking, subconsciously this became a resistance tool. Can our corrupt politicians pretend to have the interests of the youths at heart?

Production- KEBS, KRA, police and chiefs will be overzealous in destroying muratina and cheap opaque beer breweries who do not pay the bribes.

Hii ni porojo ya wanasiasa. The uptake of family planning is up there. Wewe na Gachagua mko na watoto wangapi ju hamkunywi patiala.

Another Kale Gout ,Useless and they were giving birth left and right . Its during Mois era population there was a population outburst in GEMA.
Methanol is so potent inamaliza nguvu za kiume and making them shoot blanks .

Hakuna. Muratina by the time Moi was taking over had made the wazees all over Central useless. The crackdown eased when they allowed sijui off license bars and masandukuni.

A broke govt has to have priorities right not playing god. What is the majority after- cheap unga- cheap electricity - education- health- roads-dams. Focus on that.

There will always be a few extremists in any society. Hii ni kupea overstretched police and low morale civil servants presha ya bure with no clear outcomes.

Nothing but the truth , unlike other parts of Kenya the kind of drinks sold in Mt Kenya is pure mixed Methanol very addictive and renders one useless minutes upon drinking . If they were still strinking Muratina which is not potent thats fine just like other parts drink their Mnazi , Busaa and changaa.

They should start by doing away with these fake companies which claim they brew alchohol .

Agreed.
I reject the poverty argument.
Gov should enforce serious drug control - and make it a little hard to buy cheap alcohol.
I think Kuria proposal to heavily tax alcohol - is way to go.
Problem is cheap liquor - with 100shs - they buy dangerous stuff that knock them out.
Sin tax is one cheapest way to finish the problem.
Betting has reduced by half when heavy taxes were introduced.
Miraa also need to be declared a drug - even if merus will complain.

Problem in Mt kenya and RV is the proliferation of cheap dangerous liquor.

Make alcohol so expensive it become a luxury - otherwise arresting them - doesnt solve the problem.

The poor can go back to drinking busaa and changaa - which are not as dangerous as all these cheap ethanol poisions.

And slowly it easy to crackdown on changaa and busaaa.

Eventually alcohol will become a luxury item for the rich  and the responsible.

Economy and poverty can be there, like it was in the 80s and 90s, but folks should not indulge in drugs and alcoholism. Those are personal choices that brings the society down whether economy is thriving or not. If Ruto-Gachagua administration can suppress this menace considerably, economy will grow alone by 2%
