Nothing puzzling. Squeezed citizens are looking for cheaper options. The ufool counterfeit was just a scapegoat- a collapsing economy affects everyone. That Part! These Gikomba traders are importing the same product and selling it at higher prices perhaps from the manufacturer or distributor. I have accompanied a rela to China to buy that stuff. My recollection is that she bought her loot in Retail shops at Retail prices...these is the problem I have with 'Jua Kali' way of doing Retail - it dont work. They should live ching chong alone or emulate his Merchandise sourcing method. What if MK set up a mega warehouse, make deals with distributors and manufactures, and stock the warehouse and have Gikomba traders source the inventory from the local warehouse, you'll compete with ching chong evenly if not better. The warehouse might even be able to complete with this mall.
