Last night I came across a "richest in the world, by country" article, and some Angolans (e.g. the dos Santos lady and friends) have clearly done very well for themselves. African style. Bugger the rest.

Dos Santos makes "our" local Kenyan thieves pickpockets by comparison. But I think it has more to do with what is available to loot than than any altruism on the part of the local thieves.

In these days of D. Trump, perhaps Americans should be on the lookout for "secret Mexicans". Of such, my favourite is Linda Ronstadt. She was so famous for so long as a "proper American" doing "proper American music" that hardly anyone ever thought of her as Mexican. I have listened to quite a few recordings of her performances, but I only have two CDs of those---one a "followup" from the other---and I think they are way up there.

When, "late in life" (but quite a while ago), she returned to her roots, the results were amazing---a true artiste at perfect peak. Canciones De Mi Padre is an astounding recording. I never spruik anything on this thread, but I highly recommend the CD (and follow-up one). The following "live" piece is not the best representative, but have a taste.

Our discussion on AI, transhumanism, etc. brought to mind Jimmy Castor's song on how far we have come. The song is especially interesting because it explains the origins of the phrase "right on"---listen carefully near the end---which are much older than many imagine.
