Good news coming from Kenya. At last some people have seen the light and abandoned illusions for reality.

it is unlikely that the country will go into nuclear power production in the foreseeable future

We have enough rivers and wind, and solar

Mission impossible. The investment costs for nuclear energy are very high. One needs big time energy consumers like heavy metal industry to be able to make the whole scheme viable.

Nothing but junket to eat tax payers money. There is sufficient solar and wind to power the whole country. Majority of Kenyans only use very kidogo power for lighting, charging phones, radio and phones.

When Raila was Energy minister, the proposal was presented to him by a group of experts at MIT in Boston. Nuclear specifically to support Industrialization but also for local electricity consumption. Let's think OOB...maybe not Kenya, but the region and Africa in general...1.3 billion population and growing. Resistance is futile. You will have N-Energy.

Factories run during the day. so why not give people loans to buy solar panels, generate energy and sell to the grid. It will benefit everyone. A regular guy becomes an investor, power co gets more electricity than needed and sells it cheaper than current prices.

Exactly - in Africa with tropical climate - you dont need much power - for ACs and related - in the evening it just lights and few electronics.  Solar power is enough to power most factories during the day.

Impractical. In Kenya such scheme will be like opening a can of worms.

Its a loan, provided by a bank, guaranteed by govt. Even if each family produces 100W amd feed it directly to the grid, itll go a long way towards reducing the cost of electricity @.30c/KW, i believe.
