Title: Theft of drugs from pubic hospitals
Post by: gout on March 16, 2023, 03:34:26 PM
These thugs pretending to be very special class of people are despicable.

Politicians we know are damned thugs but these medics stealing drugs then watching hapless patient struggle even die, and crooked bankers I would rank them the vilest in capitalism.
Great to see governors and police going after these despicable shiets!

A sting operation at Murang'a County Referral Hospital on Friday night saw police arrest four members of staff caught stealing medicine worth Sh1.5 million.

County Police Commander Ali Nuno said the suspects were nabbed moments after they had loaded the contraband in a personal car. The medicine packed in 12 carton boxes was destined to private clinics run by the same staff, he said.

The suspect, who is now being held at Engineer Police station works at Engineer County and Referral Hospital’s Pharmacy department and is believed to be engaged with a string of other persons in the syndicate.

According to the governor, in the last six months alone, his administration has procured drugs and other supplies totalling to over Ksh. 50 million yet drug shortage is still reported in the hospitals.

There has to be a way to control how drugs are dispensed

In developed world - you need prescription - from doctor - emailed - then filed - and it easy to track. Even in Kenya big private hospital - it's done that way.

Public hospitals - manual papers - no tracking.

The same need to happen - those doctors prescriptions - need to be filed before pharmacist dispense drugs.

Otherwise pharmacist will steal the drugs.

Solution - design a system where doctor email the pharmacist - the pharmacist dispense the medicine.

It easy then to send auditors - and confirm if drugs sold matches prescriptions.

I saw Kang'ata showcasing a partnership on the same yet thefts are still happening. It has to be linked to KEMSA or something.
