Title: Seeing the milky way for the first time ...
Post by: veritas on December 31, 2022, 06:39:13 PM
I was shocked. Had no idea where I was holidaying had such a galactic wonder.

Stepped outside and boom, I could see whitish swirls and smatter of stars.

Barrington Tops.

I don't recommend the place though, I felt an ancient evil in the region so left after one sleepless night. They appeared like creatures? gods? very ancient ones with Mayan? like features.

Found out afterwards Aboriginals avoided the region.

Sounds interesting.  Always a good idea to get far away from the lights from time to time.

Yes Termi, nice to bond with nature  8)

N.. an app? You're joking right.

The night sky is gorgeous in Kenya (aside from Nairobi) dark sky tourism could be a thing in Kenya.

https://www.darksky.org/samyukta-manikumar-monthly-star/

In the future, Samyukta wants to compile Kenyan cultural stories of the night together with information about how Kenyan wildlife is affected by light pollution into what she calls an “astro-journal” — a book that would encourage people to go outside and engage with the night sky.

you can see milkman in my village clearly during certain periods when there is full moon. we used to spend ours watching cows graze at night with my late friend. one day we came to conclusion that aliens exist and certain artists were aliens. we hade late mj in our minds. we concluded his talent  and eccentricities were alien influenced.

A meteriorite one time came down buzzing at around 10 pm. I didn't see it but my siblings were moving from the kitchen to main house and spotted it. it zoomed towards ngong hill areas and it is believed to burnt on entry to earth. no fragments were found. it caused a heated debate in parliament the following Monday. the govt explained that it was unknown heavenly body

... wow, I so won't be pointing my phone to the sky to essentially look at the sky though mzungu lense. That's such a nerdy thing to do, a total mood kill.

Thanks anyway N.

Dialogue about the cosmos still stinks like colonial history. When can we start the dialogue on re-writing the history of stars inclusive across civilisations? Such as:

Will science ever self correct? I feel like it constantly goes dark unless smacked into light by political correctness, equity and what not.
