Its very sad to see a woman of such caliber killed like she is a nobody. What about regular women in the community who have little say. She was a daughter, sister, aunt etc but to this hooligan she was a nobody. Am sure it was about money.

This is very rare among most kenyan women, who believe that a man's salary belong to family, while empowered woman salary belong to woman alone.
Many situation like this could result after a man invests in a woman hoping he's investing in future family. Things turn south when woman start making money and tells man she can do whatever she wants because she's independent.
I think we are at cultural crossroads breakpoint with mixing incompatible western and traditional African culture. Something gives in soon..

This is an interesting but sad article. So Kenyan female athletes have been suffering in silence all this time? Really sad.
The death of Kenyan running star Agnes Tirop has thrown a spotlight on the pressures faced by the country's female athletes who pay a huge -- and often tragic -- price for their spectacular success in a male-dominated society.
Devoted to sports from an early age, many lack the necessary education to manage their finances, the four-time New York marathon champion said, putting them at risk of being used as "cash cows" by greedy spouses.
"There are so many wolves out there waiting to prey on these girls," Tegla Loroupe, a former world marathon record holder, told AFP.
Agents pay off families to convince them to "force the girls to drop out of school prematurely and compete in overseas races", the 48-year-old said.
"The young girls need to be given space to grow," said the retired runner, who now counsels troubled athletes after a bruising battle with alcoholism.
In the past Athletics Kenya has sought to protect female athletes by closing two training camps in the Rift Valley for allegedly exploiting young women.
But "Tirop's death has been a wake-up call", Athletics Kenya spokesman Dominic Ondieki told AFP, adding that the country's sporting community needed to address the elephant in the room.
"Athletes are now opening up to reveal the challenges they are facing in their marriages... It seems most of these athletes have been suffering in silence," he said.
With a glittering career, a family and business investments to cushion her retirement, Keitany is a rare success story on the personal and professional front.
But the 39-year-old, who only took up distance running after the birth of her first child, says the pressure for female athletes to be superwomen must stop.
"A woman athlete is expected to bear children, fight to quickly shed the weight and get back into shape and return to competition in order to bring food on the table for the whole family.
"Yet the men just wait and enjoy the fruits of her sweat. This should be rebuked."

These deaths came slightly over three months after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed constituted a nine-member committee to look into the welfare of female athletes.
The committee chaired by Ndereba and Sports Registrar Rose Wasike, as an administrator, was formed after a female basketballer accused a coach of sexual harassment.
Ndereba’s committee that was given 30 days to hand in the report, on July 10, is expected to table the same before the end of this month.
To protect female athletes, Amina ordered that no team will be allowed to travel outside the country without a female representative.
“No women’s teams will leave the country for any competition without being accompanied by at least two women officials, a doctor and a team welfare officer.
“These young athletes are coming up very fast and someone will spot the talent. These can be coaches, physiotherapists or even an ordinary boy from the village. They then settle with them and give some financial support when these athletes are still struggling even though the main goal is the money that they will make in future,” says Korir.
“So once the money starts coming in, the woman then realises that she made a mistake of settling down too early and maybe with the wrong guy. Sadly, though, this ‘wrong guy’ wouldn’t want to let go. They would go to the point of killing the woman.”

Nyahururu is where legend athletes like Kipchoge Keino, Nyantika Maiyoro, Amos Biwott used to camp ahead of an international race.
More than 200 athletes met AK officials to air their grievances, with issues to do with sharing of wealth between couples in the athletics circles dominating the discussions.
In Nyahururu, athletes have formed a union where one is supposed to contribute Sh100 every month and has been of great help especially after coronavirus struck last year.
AK Youth Development Director Barnaba Korir said the last five days have been successful as a large number of athletes turned up to discuss issues affecting them.
"Once we have finished this programme, we shall have a retreat to implement and involve stakeholders and the government to see how we can help athletes on the issues they brought up," said Korir.
"Athletes have been contributing to the economy of this country and in our statistics, we have almost seven billion shillings in circulation annually and there is need to support such people," added Korir.
