Title: A vision of the future - we have to unite and cooperate!
Post by: Arcadian_Dreamer on September 15, 2021, 09:49:10 AM
Towards the realization of a prosperous society where each and every one of us is generously given what we can do.

We all need food, shelter and security, irrespective of our background. The atomistic individual vision of society that has been dominating the last century has been a failure. Most Kenyans - close to 70% live below the poverty line. We are headed for 100% poverty. The reason is everyone's trying to fend for himself, it doesn't work. No person however talented can do it all by himself.

In the coming era, we will have to change from a competitive society to a cooperative society. Can't have thousands of little shops each selling the same thing eking out puny profits. They need to pool their resources, cooperate and eat as one - better margins, better organization. We have tried competition it is not working, hyper-capitalism is a dead end.

Spain has a concept like this called the Mondragon, workers own the factories and companies they work in. It is dignified and fulfilling way to earn livelihood. Abuse of employees is unheard of.

In Japan villagers come together and help neighbors thatch their large wooden houses during summer free of charge, communal food is prepared free, folks make merry, drink, sing old songs and enjoy themselves. Some things are priceless.

Cooperation brings out the best in the human spirit - compassion, conviviality. Conversely individualism brings out the worst in humanity - corruption, ruthlessness. One can easily see the reason why those in political office in this country steal. In a society that is devoid caring where everyone stands on their own. The scared seek salvation in their loot.

There is enough for everyone of us to live comfortably.

Now you're talking.
This is and ought to be bottom up.
Organize all kenyan poor into cooperatives - where they can collective bargain - and enjoy economies of scale.

No it doesn't have anything to do with bottom up, bottoms up is still individual effort.

Cooperation should not necessarily be confined to commercial domain. Residents should come together to ward off thugs and the police, parents, students, etc

Asians in California are well know for owning their homes within a few years of immigrating because they pool resources, and help each other pay off their homes. No mortgage.

We need cooperative movement in Kenya - to be re-energized - like it was in 60s and 70s.

Communism/Socialism/community is great as long as it's voluntary. It's one of the ways to generate economies of scale, location, consolidations and of course get a bargaining power.

I believe Hustler Nation is about organizing the poor into cooperatives and saccos - so their bottom down hustles - can start to have similar punch - big corporation have. Otherwise it's become very difficult to deal with individuals at the bottom of pyramid - who are in their millions. It easy to deal with 100 big SACCOs where all 10M people are members of - and than trying to help everyone.

End of day we need Economies of Scale - that you only get by becoming BIG - either as individual company or through some force of cooperative model like ants or bees!
