Was the KDF Plane Shot Down or Fell to Technical Problems
« on: December 05, 2014, 04:37:08 PM »
Or did the technical problem arise from ground fire? We have no idea on account of the dearth of information from this opaque war. Al Shabaab issued their statement yesterday before KDF. They rightly claimed that the pilot burnt inside - something that can only happen if it was hit rendering the eject mechanism inoperable). So if these were technical problems, why didn't the pilot eject?

I agree with Pundit, it is time Kenyans started demanding that the troops come home. I am disappointed by the opposition. They are leaving an issue that concerns all people untouched. I wonder how many ODM senior folks are on Jubilee payroll! It can't just be Onyonka!

Somali Islamist group al Shabaab said it had shot down a Kenyan military plane on Thursday in southern Somalia, after Kenyan newspapers had reported that it crashed due to technical problems after a combat mission.

"We hit the Kenyan jet and downed it. It was bombing Bulaguduud town today," Al Shabaab's spokesman for military operations, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab, said. "We hit it using a missile." The pilot was "burnt inside", he said.

Hard to say.  KDF fighter jets are old.  Refurbished F-5s from 1959 bought from Jordan.  The thing could have just fallen from the skies as they are saying.

The defence budget dwarfs neighboring countries with better equipped air forces.  One's guess where all the money goes is as good as another.

It also means KDF is lying about controlling the said area. Their past communiques have claimed greater success on paper than on the ground. How did the rebels get to the plane before KDF. Why didn't the other plane circle the area to scare them away? Could the other pilot have feared being targeted too? What if Al Shabaab bring down another? Would it be blamed on more technical problems?

People should demand the truth about these matters. For too long DoD has been given a free ride. They buy used shit and make us pay for the price of new equipment. Now they are ready to seize power. Then it will be too late to question them. A military that absconds from civilian control and authority eventually targets democracy.

Omollo,
This is not your mother's govt. Its Uhurus. Sit on your ass and ask no questions. If police kill all over, just know they are doing their job. They are doing a good job - recruiting suicide killers from ISIS.

I pose no danger. The number of people asking remotely critical questions has gone seriously down. The first lot was co opted by Kibaki in to various commissions and government jobs.  Many became ministers and civil servants. We had others becoming Judges. Abida Ali and Martha Koome, for example went in via the Ghai Commission and not because they delivered but because they sabotaged it.

Come Uhuru and the circle is complete. The new creations in the constitution swallowed up many. Again they did not go there to expound on values they acquired in the trenches but as rewards for betraying their principles. We have governors and MPs. The rest are beholden to ethnic interests. Most of the GEMA activists surrendered once Kibaki took over. To them the war was over. It was all about getting the Presidency back to Mt. Kenya.

The regular guy went to look for opportunities in Mandera and his head was chopped off.

The Intelligentsia is good at exploiting such tragedies to keep a hold on power. The common man gains nothing from Uhuru being in power. But they make him feel if he is not gaining, he at least "safe". Look at a guy like Energizer preaching the gospel of fear. He openly claims that if a Luo comes to power, he will dish it out to Kikuyus.

If Alshabab shot down the plane, its reasonable not to move out of Somalia and strengthen our border control, they can do more harm if Somalia is left for them only to operate,

Without Prejudice.

It well known that KDF have no control outside the towns and their barracks. Alshabaab just withdraws from towns and move to rural areas..where they launch attack on KDF occasionally..as they ran somalia.

Pundit,

They also control major centers.  Jilib, a mere stone throw from Kismayo, is a major charcoal producing town under Al-shabaab rule.

They export their charcoal through Kismayo.

KDF shares the loot with them. They bring the charcoal to an exchange post. KDF and their allies buy it. Then KDF facilitates export with fake KPA papers. They get payment in form of sugar, used cars, cooking oil etc. KDF then uses the Navy to ship these goods to Mombasa. Cars are registered as military resale / boarded vehicles and given KRA number plates. Sugar is repackaged in Mumias labels and sold to Mwau and Nakumatt thieves.

I have a relative who works in the repackaging zone.

I don't even think you believe what you are saying. Al Shabaab is attacking Kenya to end occupation. You end occupation and you end attacks. You will of course have to deal with the operatives they have trained to carry out attacks in Kenya. But that is something that can be dealt with locally. If we keep playing with this matter, Al Shabaab will get stronger and launch Mali like attacks.

That is suprising. Alshabaab have fought this war very intelligent. They learnt from Afgan. This is war of attrition...the last man standing...they have avoided direct fight with KDF or Ethiopia army..they just move from a town and set base in rural somalia...where they continue with their rule.

See how they have us in confusion. They distance between Lamu and Mandera is huge. They are expanding their attacks and spreading them. They were in Nairobi then moved to NEP and then Lamu and back to NEP. If this goes on, they will strike in ruralk areas where they are least expected.
