Kirgit=Uncastrated Bull. It has lots of symbolism in Kalenjin.

A bull ( Kirgit) is turned into an Ox (eito) by open castration.

1. Kipiegen clan ( Totem -Baboon, Rat) - Did not bleed oxen
2. Talai clan - Did not bleed oxen in the Morning
3. Kipaa clan - bleed their oxen on a rainy morning.
4. Young warriors lived in a small huts in the forest called 'ekoruek' and slaughtered oxen from time to time. ( Not to be confused with initiates - Tarusiek who are secluded in Menjo)
5. Kipngeny is a child born when oxen are in the salt licks
6. An ox is part of the price paid for assault
7. ' imelel ' is a curse meaning 'may you not get oxen in a raid.'
8. Kaptich / Limo - is a Name given to a child when the oxen and cows have gone to the grazing grounds
9. 10AM - Karot Tuka- The oxen/cows have returned.
10. Saget-Ap-Eito - A handover/Takeover ceremony of the communities defence and attack duties from one ageset to Another.
11. Koito - Part of the bride price paid includes Eito ( an Ox).
12. Used as a beast of burden in tilling farms and transportation
13. An object of pride for the owner, songs were sung in praise of ones Ox and Oxen
