FDR, the best president the world never had
« on: November 19, 2021, 10:10:01 AM »
Was watching this show about the BRI, and I learned something about Franklin Roosevelt, 32nd American President, that I never knew!  (Kipindi kiko hapa:)
I knew FDR was responsible for the U.S.'s existing social programs, which he introduced in the great depression and which pulled them through that dark time without a revolution erupting. I also knew he had big plans to establish a universal healthcare system before he died.

What I didn't know . . . is that he had big plans for Africa and China, as well! That he had a big debate/Quarrel with Churchhill about it. That he chided the Brits for raping Africans only to extract pennies when they stood to gain so much more from genuinely developing Africa. That he told them that when the war was over, Africa would be made independent and that "we" (the Americans) would develop Africa in the same way we developed the U.S.A. with infrastructure and healthcare and education, and that he said similar things about China, too! This is told, apparently, in a book by FDR's son, Elliot Roosevelt that I haven't yet read: https://www.amazon.com/As-he-saw-Elliott-Roosevelt/dp/B0006AQWS8

Unfortunately for all of us, FDR died before he could set any of this in motion, and was replaced by Truman, who, with Churchhill, launched the cold war, and any notions of building "others" died along with the other American social programs FDR had intended but not yet fulfilled.

FDR's wife, Lady Roosevelt as she was known played a vital part in helping Tom Mboya alongside Harry Belafonte and actor Sidney Poitier in arranging for the airlift of the first 800 Kenyan students to go study in the US. Her engagement for Africa way before the independence movements gained ground was also very important. She met also with Julius Nyerere before he became president of Tanganyika.
Here is Eleanor Roosevelt in conversation with Tom Mboya.

Fdr hated colonialism and told Churchill straight away that Britain and other European countries had to give back colonies to the natives.  His argument was simple, there was no way to justify fighting Hitler who wanted to rule over other people then justify letting colonialism continue. The last meeting the three strongest men Roosevelt, Churchill and  Stalin was held in Yalta and Churchill hated the fact that Roosevelt was listening to Stalin. Unfortunately Truman who became president after Roosevelt died abruptly was still inexperienced and Churchill was able to manipulate him.  Remember Truman didn't even know about the Manhattan project to make the atomic bombs as vice president.  Churchill came to Missouri to even campaign with Truman against Dewey.  That is where the terms iron curtain were coined by Churchill and thus started the cold War.  It is interesting that as awful and unfortunate as the second world war was and as despicable as Hitler was...the idiot saved us negroes from colonialism by bankrupting especially Britain and France.

She's a legend. Responsible for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I also saw a Cuba Gooding movie depicting her as helping to end discrimination against black pilots in the U.S. military by choosing one of the black pilots to fly her around the base with the press as witnesses. Don't know if that was based on a true story.

Very interesting! Thanks for the writeup, mankind. It's such a shame people like this don't get the chance to attempt such wholesomely ambitious plans.

Negativity will always win. It is always loud and advertises itself as good. - look at Trumpism.

Trump won in 2016, and even after losing 2020, Trumpism is still winning the GOP. Nobody dare say anything negative about the moron.
Did you see whats happening in TX, FL, WI? They drew their own maps so they can win more seats.
