Good morning church,
Today I wish to share on personal knowledge.
Matthew 16:13-17(NKJV)
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
Jesus was born and grew up quietly until he launched his ~3.5 years public ministry. He caused a stir, a buzz and understandably he was misunderstood. The disciples were aware these misunderstandings as evidenced by the answers they gave.
To Jews, Jesus was several things;
-Elijah
-John the Baptist
-Jeremiah
-Some other prophet
Jesus now zooms in from who others think he be to the disciples. Peter shot first. Jesus was Christ, the Messiah, The Son of God. He got it right and I believe he spoke for the rest. Nobody followed Jesus that close without clarity of who he be.
Today I wish to ask us church to introspect. Who do you think is Jesus? The answer to this defines your Christianity. And I hope and pray that to you Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Living God
And now, let us worship the Word made Flesh(John 1: 14) as you have a restful Lord's Day
