Good Morning church,
Today is Mother's Day and of course all of us can identify with mothers, all except Adam who was motherless
I want to share a few disjointed scriptures and brief lessons on motherhood from the scriptures
Luke 11:27 (ESV)
27 As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Here somebody , a woman of course marveled at Jesus teachings and she figured that his mother must have been a really blessed figure (we have a sect who think exactly like her). Jesus quickly reminded her that blessedness is not his blood relation but HEARING and KEEPING the Word of God!
Mary was just another Jewish girl who went on and sired several kids with Josee after Jesus. Of course she was unique in being the mother of Jesus in the FLESH. And so were his brothers in the flesh. But that's just about it. Selah!
Isaiah 49:15 (ESV)
15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
Here is YHWH assuring us that mothers have an extremely strong bond with their nursing babies and his bond with us is several fold stronger. This is one verse only mothers can understand. But lately abandoned infants are a tad too common. Selah!
2 Timothy 1:5 (ESV)
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
May be I read too much into this verse but how do we have two women figures in the life of Timothy and no father-figure? I suppose these two women played a major role in shaping Timothy's faith. Where was the men? Where was his father and grandfather? Timothy's father was Greek (Acts 16:1)
And I notice women are always more passionate in the things of God. A women's meeting is likely to be packed and overflowing while men's meetings are just 'there'. Let the men wake up and go to church. Selah!

3 When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes[a] and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank. 4 And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. 5 Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews' children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, “Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Go.” So the girl went and called the child's mother. 9 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.10 When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”
Here, we have two most remarkable women; Moses mother. When's he heard that all Jewish kids was being killed, she took a gamble. She hid him to increase his chances of survival. And it paid. Pharaoh's daughter saw him, took him in and adopted him. May the lord bless all mothers who have raised kids they did not sire! Selah
2 Kings 4:18-21English Standard Version (ESV)
Elisha Raises the Shunammite's Son
18 When the child had grown, he went out one day to his father among the reapers. 19 And he said to his father, “Oh, my head, my head!” The father said to his servant, “Carry him to his mother.” 20 And when he had lifted him and brought him to his mother, the child sat on her lap till noon, and then he died. 21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God and shut the door behind him and went out.
Yaani a kid falls sick and the father orders he be taken to his mother as he continues works. May be that's how they was used to, or he thought it was a minor thing. The kid kufd on his mother's laps. She took him to Elisha's bed and went to look for him...read the rest of the chapter for what came out of it. All in all, I salute the mother's determination where the father just stood by. God bless you mothers Selah!
Revelation 17:4-5 (ESV)
The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. 5 And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth's abominations.”
I could go on and on but I want to stop here. The last reference to motherhood in the scriptures is horrifying. John sees a vision and in it a woman who is called MOTHER of Prostitutes and Earth's Abomination. As to the identity of this woman I leave that to another day, but the point here is women sire what they are. They pass that onto they children. Let all mothers take heed so that when they stand before God, they shall not be ashamed but feted for good stewardship of the children God entrusted them. Selah!
