Prepare for a referendum, Raila tells IEBC
« on: August 14, 2020, 11:53:25 AM »
Seems the motivation of Uhuru opening up the country when Covid numbers were surging was the referendum . They are hell bound in making sure its held latest by December this year because if it spill over to 2021 there will be calls for it to be held together with 2022 elections which in that case will destroy Railas game plan on enticing other political players to his side  and by 2021  Uhuru will be lame duck

Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga on Thursday told the electoral agency to prepare for a referendum.

Mr Odinga said the “unstoppable” plebiscite would be held as soon as he and President Uhuru Kenyatta receive the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

Some politicians, especially those drawn from Deputy President William Ruto’s Tangatanga wing of the ruling Jubilee Party, want the vote held alongside the 2022 General Election “to cut costs”.

Mr Odinga said the time “is now and BBI will start walking again”.

“They said reggae stopped. It did not stop. It only went for half time. Players have been getting massage and instructions from coaches,” he said at Chungwa House during the swearing-in of newly appointed officials to the party elections board and disciplinary committee.

Raila is hallucinating. Let him pass the County Formulae first. He has these deadlines...June..August..now Dec. Next year it will be March...etc.

If they cannot agree on simple country revenue sharing formulae - what make him think kenyans will agree on constitutional ammendments.

Meanwhile schools are closed - and many business shuttered by COVID - and some idiots things Kenyans are worried about referendum for 2022 posts.

What would be the immediate benefit of holding the referendum now. NONE.

If Uhuru wants to make Raila the PM - he can do that now.

We can then have constitutional reforms together with 2022 elections -

ODM and Raila need to go and a study why it took Kenya a Post Election Violence to promulgate a new constitution .
One wise fellow who goes by the name Michuki put it out clear in 2005 that  the urge for a new constitutions then  was all about removing Moi out of power , bottom line it never succeed then .
The Okoa Kenya failed because the urge of a new constitutions then was doing  away with so called tyranny
History repeats itself and  the new urge of a new constitution now is ensure Ruto does not become the president

Yes, it nearly impossible to change constitution in peace time. People won't compromise unless there is something to really lose...like peace. Tanzania have been talking constitutional change since 1995 - now well into what 35yrs.

Moi pushed the can from 1990 to until he added Kibaki - the baton - and Kibaki took his time - and if it wasn't for 2007 war - we won't have taken it seriously.

The constitution of Kenya is basically a reflection Baba's efforts to achieve power.  While there may be justification, it is a shaky foundation on which to base the future of a country.
